Plea Deal Expected In Shooting Death Of Teen

The man accused of shooting at a group of teens near Storrie Lake in Las Vegas is expected to take a plea in court this week, KOB TV reports . Three teens were hit in the shooting, and 16-year-old Adelina Tafoya died. Almost two years have passed, and Tafoya’s mother says they still have more questions than answers. 

Teen Gets Life Sentence In Death Of Santa Fe Athlete

Estevan Montoya, the teen convicted of killing high school basketball star J.B. White, was sentenced to life in prison. Montoya shot and killed White, just a week before White was set to play basketball with the University of New Mexico, KQRE TV reports . Montoya was convicted in May of first-degree murder in White’s death.

Bernco Sheriff's Office Seeks Murder Suspect

On Thursday, June 23, 2022, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit served an arrest warrant for Jonathan Martinez (21) for the murder of Yasmin Marquez. Marquez was reported missing by her family on April 15th, 2022. It was believed that Marquez was with her ex-boyfriend, Jonathan Martinez. At the time of her disappearance, Martinez was wanted for an outstanding homicide warrant issued by the Albuquerque Police Department. Martinez has since been arrested for that outstanding warrant. With the assistance of a Forensic Specialist with APD’s Digital Intelligence Team, Marquez’s body was able to be located on May 26th, 2022 in Sandoval County. Martinez has been rebooked into the Metropolitan Detention Center for an Open Count of Murder, Tampering with Evidence (x2) and False Imprisonment.

APD/DEA Operation Nets Narcotics Suspect

Detectives with the Albuquerque Police Department’s Central Narcotics Unit have arrested Robin Eugene Thomas, 53, following an ongoing narcotics investigation with the DEA. APD’s Narcotics Unit along with the DEA have been working an investigation into Thomas who operates a shop along 4th Street and McKnight NW, near Coronado Park. During the course of the investigation, several large scale drug seizures were made and Thomas was identified as a known affiliate of the Bandidos MC. On Wednesday, June 23, 2022 units from the Gun Violence Street Team, VICE, Southeast PRT and field officers worked together to conduct a search warrant on Thomas’ business.

Man Dragged, Killed Brother With Truck

APD Homicide detectives arrested Decio Lee overnight and charged him for intentionally running over and killing his brother, Donovan Lee, during a dispute Thursday. Decio Lee, 24, told detectives he met with his brother shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday at his residence, located at 11400 Cochiti Rd., S.E. He said they drank alcohol and had a verbal confrontation before Decio Lee left in a gray Honda. He said his brother followed him in a Dodge Ram pickup truck. Decio Lee said he did not remember anything about his brother’s death. However, witnesses and video showed the two brothers exit their respective vehicles and appear to enter into a physical altercation. Decio Lee got into the truck and witnesses said he ran over his brother, Donovan Lee, and dragged him down the road.

APD Program Seeks To Make Downtown Safer

The Albuquerque Police Department has announced the launch of Downtown TEAM, which stands for Targeted Enforcement and Active Monitoring. TEAM will provide a better use of officer resources for greater community impact and create an increase presence in downtown Albuquerque. Officers begin working overtime for TEAM in July. Many local businesses have already contributed to fund additional patrol of proactive police in the Downtown area and have reached $90,000 in pledges. Among the pledges, PNM was the first to contribute to TEAM through a grant award of $15,000.

Four Hills Murder Suspect Found In Arizona

A man wanted in a Four Hills shooting death has been apprehended in Tempe, Arizona, police say. APD detectives identified Tayven Lee White, 22, as the suspect in this week’s shooting death of a man at the Four Hills Studios. White is charged with an open count of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The victim has been identified as Charles Carter, 40.

APD Arrests Murder Suspect

APD officers arrested a wanted murder suspect, Christopher Wade, based on a tip from the public. Wade, 31, was arrested late Sunday. He is accused of shooting Dustin Banteah, 43, with a sawed-off shotgun during a fight at the Sun Plaza Apartments, located at 4400 Montgomery Blvd. N.E.

ABQ: Fatal Crash on Coors/Montano

APD’s Motor units were called to a fatal crash Tuesday involving a vehicle and a motorcycle south of the intersection of Coors Blvd. and Montano Rd., N.W. The vehicle was making a left turn from southbound Coors to eastbound into the shopping center at 5600 Coors. The motorcycle was traveling northbound and collided with the passenger side of the vehicle, causing it to roll over. The driver of the vehicle was transported to UNM Hospital in critical condition. The motorcycle rider was deceased on scene. Speed appears to be a factor in the crash. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor. The investigation is still on-going.

Teen Accused Of Shooting Teen Arrested

Albuquerque Police say 16-year-old Angelo Baldonado is accused of killing 16-year-old Josue Ruiz in an alley near 5th and Central in March. He was arrested Wednesday. 

APD Arrests Beauty Supply Business Owner for Drug Trafficking

The Albuquerque Police Department has arrested Juan Ramon Luevano following an undercover drug operation. The Central Narcotics Unit has been conducting an ongoing undercover Fentanyl investigation into Luevano. With the assistance of the DEA, and DEA TFO's, several undercover narcotics purchases were conducted on separate occasions seizing approximately 7,000 Fentanyl pills.
